Deputy PM Minh busy at UN Summit
Deputy PM shares VN's MDG achievements at UN event
Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh shared Viet Nam's experience in implementing the millennium development goals (MDGs) that the country has achieved most ahead of schedule at a high-level event held at the UN headquarters in New York on September 25.
The Deputy PM said that Viet Nam achieved most of the MDGs ahead of schedule. "Our MDG results are also important for the fact that they met the most basic needs of our people, employment and income, health and education, water and sanitation."
According to Mr. Minh, "the Government of Viet Nam took ownership of the MDGs and translated them into our own. Viet Nam's political, economic and social stability has been the prerequisite for our development and MDG implementation. Viet Nam considers development as a process of the people, by the people and for the people, and the ultimate aim of all development efforts is human development. None of the success would have been possible without our close partnership with the UN system and other development partners."
Viet Nam, said Mr. Minh has greatly benefited from the work of the UN agencies and the support of donor countries. This tripartite partnership – Government, UN and donors – has indeed been the hallmark in Viet Nam's MDG achievement and especially in implementation of "Delivering as One" to make the UN work more coherently, better coordinated and more efficient and effective.
Deputy PM calls for Cameroon's support to Vietnamese investors
Deputy PM Minh asked the Cameroonian Government to roll out critical measures to preserve the legitimate rights of Vietnamese investors, including the military-run Viettel Group those 3G project is facing difficulties.
Meeting Cameroonian FM Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo on September 27 (New York time) on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly, the Deputy PM stated that Viet Nam is keen to boost mutually beneficial cooperation with Cameroon and proposed both countries expand efforts to tap their partnership potential.
Along with increasing exchanges among ministries, localities and businesses, the two sides should begin negotiations for signing an agreement on investment encouragement and protection, and a double taxation avoidance deal, he suggested.
Both should also sign an agreement to grant visa exemptions to diplomatic passport holders, he said.
Bulgarian, Danish FMs talk cooperation with VN
Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh met with the Bulgarian and Danish Foreign Ministers on the sidelines of the ongoing UN Summit in New York.
At the meeting with Bulgarian FM Daniel Mitov, Deputy PM Minh said the two ministries and other agencies of the two countries should work closely together to carry out agreements reached during the official visit to Bulgaria by PM Nguyen Tan Dung last June.
He suggested Bulgaria consider granting official development assistance (ODA) or preferential credit for environment and health projects in Viet Nam, especially those in the Mekong-Danube cooperation framework.
FM Mitov stressed that the two sides should prepare carefully for the meeting of the joint committee on cooperation next November and the two foreign ministries' political consulting meeting this year.
The two FMs agreed on the necessity of boosting international cooperation for the sustainable use and management of water resources on cross-border major rivers, as well as in climate change adaptation and ecological protection.
Meeting with Danish FM Kristian Jensen, Deputy PM Minh sent his thanks to the Danish Government for providing large amounts of ODA for Viet Nam in recent years, saying Viet Nam hopes to further collaboration with Denmark in trade-investment, science-technology, green growth, climate change and education-training.
The two sides expressed their delight at the encouraging development in bilateral trade, which will be sustained via specific trade and investment promotion activities.
Mr. Kristian Jensen said Denmark attaches much importance to the comprehensive partnership with Viet Nam and pledges to continue support the Southeast Asian country in education and in green and sustainable development.
The two diplomats agreed to consider the signing of an agreement on education cooperation, while pushing ahead with the implementation of the Viet Nam-Denmark action plan in 2014-2015 and the building of a new one for 2016-2017.
