State President meets with US, Japan, Indonesian leaders

State President Truong Tan Sang had bilateral meetings with US President Barack Obama, Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, and Indonesian President Joko Widodo on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting in Beijing, China, on November 10.

The Vietnamese and US leaders discussed measures to implement the bilateral comprehensive partnership, including the exchange of high-level delegations and preparations for the 20th  anniversary of Viet Nam-US diplomatic ties.

Regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, State President Truong Tan Sang emphasized that the negotiation for the TPP has entered the key period, which requires all involved parties to show high politicaldetermination and necessary flexibility so as it could be concluded as scheduled.

He confirmed that Viet Nam is willing to work with the US and other member countries to ensure TPP is a comprehensive and balanced agreement taking into consideration the interests and development levels of the stakeholders.

The State President took the occasion to invite his US counterpart to visit Viet Nam. President Barack Obama thanked the invitation and said that he would arrange to visit Viet Nam in an appropriate time.

At the meeting with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, both sides expressed their pleasure at the growing bilateral relations in various fields such as politics, economics, security, agriculture and people-to-people exchanges, particularly since the two countries formed a bilateral strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia during President Truong Tan Sang's visit to Japan in March 2014.

They also discussed specific measures to deepen Viet Nam-Japan relations and agreed to maintain regular high-level visits and making effective use of existing bilateral dialogue and cooperative mechanisms.

PM Shinzo Abe said Japan will continue to support Viet Nam in socio-economic development, infrastructure building, technological transfer, and improving the capacity for marine law enforcement forces

The Vietnamese leader congratulated the new Indonesian President in the 2014-2019 tenure while meeting with Mr. Joko Widodo.

The two leaders exchanged key measures to promote the Viet Nam-Indonesia strategic partnership; agree to work together to implement the 2014-2018 Action Program; boost exchanges of delegations at all levels and prepare for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2015; and raise  two-way trade  to US$ 10 billion before 2018./.
