Can Tho Leaders Received Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City
On February 28th 2017, representatives from the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh city and Tata International in Vietnam led by Ms. Smita Pant, Consul General, paid a courtesy call to Can Tho city leaders.
Received and chaired the meeting with the delegation, Mr. Tran Quoc Trung – Secretary of the Party Committee expressed his happiness towards the development in the cooperation relationship and friendship between Can Tho city and India so far in various fields such as education and training, economics, culture, trade, etc. It was Mr. Trung's expectations that such good existing relationship should be unceasingly tightened and enhanced by both sides with a vision for further expansion in new areas such as climate change to cope with the sea level rise issue, logistics, and investment applicable to the city's prioritized projects in high-tech agriculture and IT.
Moreover, the visit by the delegation additionally marked an important milestone in the cooperation relationship between Can Tho city and India in the context of the 45th anniversary of the full diplomatic relationship in 2017 (January 07th 1972 to January 07th 2017) and the 10th anniversary of the Viet Nam – India strategic partnership (July 06th 2007 to July 06th 2017). Therefore, Mr. Trung hoped that frequent cooperation via cultural exchanges, people-to-people activities should be also paid attention to and organized for mutual understanding between both peoples.

Smita Pant, on her part, said the Indian Consulate General was very happy and delighted to act as a bridge to connect Can Tho city with Indian investors, enterprises and companies. India is ready to cooperate with Vietnam in general and Can Tho city in particular in the new areas as suggested by Mr. Secretary with more focuses on climate change, reduction of gas emission and energy efficiency. She added that Can Tho city should organize more trips to India and participate in international fairs to create favorable chances for G2B and B2B matches to mutually discuss investment opportunities and understand cooperation needs in their prioritized areas.
The delegation wrapped up the visit by a field trip to Cai Cui port to discuss cooperation potentials and expectations in waterway transportation of cargos, containers, products from Can Tho to foreign countries and vice versa and logistic services related to customs clearance to save costs and time for Indian companies, corporations and enterprises.
