PM studies Rotterdam Port management model

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the Port of Rotterdam on December 13 to examine the management and operation of the facility as part of his official visit to the Netherlands.

The Port of Rotterdam is the busiest seaport in Europe, and the 10th largest in the world. It employs around 500,000 people, and contributes 8% to the country's gross domestic product (GDP).

A representative from the Port Authority told PM Chinh that Vietnam holds potential and could build an international transshipment port. The authority is willing to cooperate with the Southeast Asian country in seaport development, with the method and scale of cooperation to be taken into account.

Chinh said that the development of seaports and maritime transportation is still a new field for Vietnam. Therefore, the country wants to collaborate more with the Netherlands and the Port Authority in this field for win-win cooperation.

The Government will assign relevant ministries and sectors to study proposals and recommendations for development cooperation, he added.

It was the Vietnamese Government leader's final meeting in the Netherlands. He then left the country for an official visit to Belgium and to attend a summit in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of ASEAN-EU relations.
