Vietnam boasts comprehensive, substantial and effective cooperation with UNESCO

NDO - The relationship between Vietnam and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation(UNESCO) is very positive, comprehensive, substantial and effective, thanks to mutual cooperation across various fields, according to Secretary General of Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO Mai Phan Dung.

Dung made the remarks while delivering a speech at the ongoing 41st session of the General Conference of the representatives of UNESCO's member states held in Paris on November 12.

Speaking at the session, Dung emphasised that "Vietnam and UNESCO member countries are sharing the joy of celebrating the 75th anniversary of UNESCO. Thejourney has confirmed the organisation's role and position in the global governance structures. Over the past 75 years, UNESCO can be proud of having made many contributions to peace and sustainable development in the world by preserving the positive values ​​of the past, accompanying the development of the present and building a vision for the future."

"UNESCO has also left a strong imprint in eradicating illiteracy, building a learning and lifelong learning society, improving the quality of education at all levels globally and being present in the development journey of every child across the world so that "No one is left behind". UNESCO has also made efforts to share and disseminate knowledge, science and technology, contributing to the rise of nations," Dung added.

According to Secretary General of Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO Mai Phan Dung, Vietnam supports the strengthening of multilateralism at global, regional and inter-regional levels and backs UNESCO's mission, role and activities to maintain international peace and security and promote intellectual cooperation towards sustainable development. Vietnam also supports UNESCO's reform efforts to become a more democratic, transparent and effective organisation.

As a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, Vietnam has raised its initiative, boosting cooperation between the United Nations and international and regional multilateral organisations such as the OIF and ASEAN in preventing and addressing the conflicts in the world. Vietnam is willing to share this experience with UNESCO and act as a bridge in further strengthening cooperation between UNESCO and ASEAN.

On the afternoon of the same day, UNESCO celebrated its 75th anniversary with the participation of 28 heads of state, including French Prime Minister Jean Castex and dozens of ministers and representatives from many countries and territories.
