Prime Ministers of Vietnam - Republic of Korea hold phone talks: Agreeing on 6 measures to boost bilateral ties
On July 22, at the Government Office, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a phone talks with Korean counterpart Kim Boo Kyum.
In an intimacy, friendship, sincerity and trust atmosphere, the two leaders discussed specific measures promoting Vietnam- Republic of Korea (RoK) strategic cooperative partnership in the coming time, towards the 30th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (1992-2022).
The two Prime Ministers assessed that the Vietnam-RoK relations are developing very well; they agreed to work closely together, maintain high-level and all-level exchanges to promote cooperation in all areas and people-to-people exchanges. In particular, the two Prime Ministers agreed to regularly discuss key issues in bilateral ties in the near future.
The two Prime Ministers agreed on a number of specific measures:
To soon complete the goal of lifting two-way trade to 100 billion USD in a balanced trade manner, including facilitating Vietnam's export of agro-forestry-fishery products and seasonal fruits into the Korean market.
Encouraging and creating conditions for Korean firms to continue investing, expanding and shifting investment into Vietnam while actively assisting Korean businesses in Vietnam that are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Continuing to extend the scale of ODA supply to Vietnam. Effectively deploying and maintaining forms of labor cooperation between the two countries.
Support and make it easier for the Vietnamese in the RoK and the Koreans in Vietnam to have a stable and safe life, particularly amid the current pandemic; and stepping up several projects in national defense-security.
In the complicated situation caused by COVID-19 in the world in general and in the two countries, the two Prime Ministers exchanged many contents on cooperation in the prevention of COVID-19.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Vietnam is actively implementing a vaccine strategy. He suggested the RoK continue assisting Vietnam in receiving vaccines via COVAX Facility at the earliest, and share vaccine supplies to Vietnam as many as possible.
The two Prime Ministers agreed to direct relevant agencies share experience and work closely together on the research and transfer of vaccine production technology. They also pledged to vaccinate foreign citizens, including those from the two countries.
On regional and global issues of shared concern, the two leaders committed to enhancing collaboration at multilateral forums.
Regarding the East Sea, the two sides shared a joint vision on ensuring security, safety and maritime freedom in the East Sea, maintain an environment of peace and stability, settle disputes by peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, while seriously realizing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), toward the negotiating and early signing of an effective and efficient Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
