Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended a series of events promoting trade and investment with Thailand in Bangkok on December 20, on the sidelines of the fifth Greater Mekong Sub-region Summit.
He attended a ceremony to launch the carrier Thai Vietjet, a joint venture between Thailand's Kan Air and Vietnam's VietJet Air.
Thai Vietjet is set to operate flights within Thailand and between Thailand and Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam while expanding the routes currently exploited by VietJet Air.
Later, the PM received Chairman of PTT oil and gas group Piyasvasti Amrannand, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Amata Corporation Vikrom Kromadit, and executives of Central Group.
PTT Group Chairman informed the leader of the progress of the 22 billion USD Nhon Hoi oil refinery project in the central province of Binh Dinh. He expressed wish to buy stakes in oil drilling lots in Vietnam's continental shelf and develop Phu Cat airport in Binh Dinh up to international standards, making it easier to lure more capital inflows into the Nhon Hoi economic zone.
For Amata which boasts a 20-year track record of successful investing in Vietnam's industrial parks, Chairman Vikrom Kromadit revealed intention to pour 5 billion USD into "Future City" project in the northern province of Quang Ninh and build a large-scale industrial park in Binh Dinh.
Central Group is keen to work with Vietnam in manufacturing, processing and distributing farm produce and seafood to countries around the world.
The PM welcomed these proposals and promised all possible assistance to materialise them in Vietnam soon.
Also in Bangkok, he attended a ceremony to inaugurate a President Ho Chi Minh memorial room inside the Vietnamese Embassy.
He met with Chairman of the Thailand – Vietnam Friendship Association Prachuop Chayasan and asked the association to strongly support the two governments and business communities, as an effort to lift bilateral ties to a greater height.
Vietnam and Thailand have set to raise their trade from 11 billion USD at present to 15 billion USD by 2020.-VNA
