PM Dung highlighted that Viet Nam always attaches importance to the strategic partnership between the two sides and backs Japan's positive role and contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

For his part, Mr. Shinzo Abe expressed his desire to strengthen the bilateral ties in a more comprehensive, effective and practical manner.

Both sides agreed to enhance contacts at all levels, fruitfully implement existing dialogue and cooperation mechanisms, and further deepen political trust.

The two leaders affirmed their resolve to realize important and large-scale projects, including the Ninh Thuan 2 Nuclear Power Plant.

Mr. Shinzo Abe committed to maintaining ODA provision for Viet Nam's sustainable development, including assistance for the construction of the Cho Ray 2 Hospital.

PM Dung took the occasion to thank Japan for the first package of JPY 300 billion (US$ 3 billion) in ODA for Viet Nam in the fiscal year of 2015.

He also recommended the Japanese Government to proactively assist manpower development and boost trade ties, FDI investment and tourism in Viet Nam.

Regarding regional and international issues of common concern, the two sides also expressed their deep concerns over the recent developments in the East Sea especially, large-scale construction of islands.

They agreed on the importance of maintaining peace, security, safety and freedom of maritime and aviation and called on all involved parties to avoid actions complicating and expanding disputes in the East Sea. They also urged the strict observance of international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea as well as the Declaration on the Conducts of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), while speeding up the building of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

PM Abe emphasized his concern about the unilateral changing of status quo on large scale as well as the construction of military bases in the region, adding that Japan commits to engaging in maintaining maritime and aviation order.

After their talks, the two PMs witnessed the signing of documents, including a ¥66 billion deal on providing loans for five projects in the 2014 fiscal year, and a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on the formation of a Joint Committee on collaboration in industry, trade and energy.
