Jubilant 45th Years of Diplomatic Relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands

2018 is the year to mark the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands. On this occasion, Can Tho Municipal People's Committee and its line agencies, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Hanoi and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh city organized the Dutch Day in Can Tho from 09 – 10 November, 2018 with a series of interesting activities to celebrate it.

Some main activities of the event included the following:

 

"Meandering towards a Sustainable Future", a seminar on the Sustainability of the Mekong Delta: Water – Agriculture – Business: The seminar aimed at contributing to implementing the Resolution 120/CP by the Vietnamese Government to develop the Mekong Delta region in a sustainable way in the climate change context. It, therefore, attracted leading experts in water management, agriculture and business sectors to share experiences and ideas to be able to the development process of the region.

Cycling around the city center with 70 – 100 bicycles prepared by the Dutch side: This activity was led by Mr. Truong Quang Hoai Nam - Deputy Chairman of Can Tho and Ms. Elsbeth Akkerman – Ambassador Extraordinary Plenipotentiary of the Netherlands to Vietnam. Participants were also consist of line agencies of Can Tho city, Dutch enterprises and Can Tho students dressed themselves in red, orange colors and flags signifying the 45th year of the diplomatic relations between both countries to carry the sustainable and innovative development message.

Courtesy call by Ms. Elsbeth Akkerman - Ambassador, Ms. Pauline Eizema - Deputy Head of Mission and Dutch companies to leaders of the People's Committee, various Departments and agencies: The working visit aimed to brief each other the overview of the cooperation status of both sides gained so far. It was also an opportunity for each side to share their expectations and plans for future cooperation activities concentrating on their prioritized and strong sectors such as: agriculture, water management, bilateral trade, environment, climate change and education.
