Trade Counsellor of the Embassy of Denmark meeting with Can Tho City

On 02 July 2020, Permanent Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Mr. Dao Anh Dung hosted a meeting with Mr. Troels Jakobsen, Trade Counsellor of the Embassy of Denmark in Hanoi. Accompanying the Counsellor are representatives of Lego Education Corporation.

Danish Trade Counsellor has been in his position in Vietnam for about a year, and it was the first time the Counsellor visited Can Tho City. To give him a glance on the city, Investment Promotion Agency presented a video clip about Can Tho strengths and cooperation needs. In addition, answering the question by the Counsellor, Permanent Vice Chairman briefed the impacts of COVID-19 to the city's economy, as well as measures to enhance the economic development that city leaders are steering at, including promoting domestic tourism, recovering industrial development, and promoting export markets for agricultural and fishery products.

The Danish Embassy representative informed Can Tho's participants with three financing programs of Denmark: Danida Sustainable Infrastructure Finance (DSIF), Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU), and Export Credit Agency (EKF). Besides, representative of Lego Education presented STEM/STEAM educational activities which have been implemented in some cities and provinces of Vietnam; they expressed their willingness to expand cooperation with local schools in Can Tho City.

As for participants from Can Tho, representatives of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and Department of Construction all shared their viewpoints of looking forward to collaborating with the Embassy of Denmark in approaching financing program of DSIF for post-harvest technology, environmentally-friendly cultivation, solid waste treatment, waste water treatment, etc. Also, representative of Department of Education and Training said that STEM education has been taught at 13 primary schools, 3 secondary schools, and 2 high schools in Can Tho. The department would work with Lego Education to discuss in more details future collaboration to expand STEM/STEAM education at local schools.

Can Tho City and the Embassy of Denmark in Hanoi would continue to exchange information for cooperation needs to prepare for the organization of Danish business delegation to Can Tho City to find investment and cooperation opportunities, especially after the European Union – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement came into effect on 01 August this year.
