Working session with Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Spanish Embassy in Vietnam
As authorized by the City People's Committe, Department of Natural Resources and Environment has recently had a working session with Mr. Juan Fernandez – Cuervo, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Spanish Embassy in Vietnam. The Counsellor's delegation includes the representative of Acciona Agua , the company specializes in water desalination treatment.
The Counsellor expresses his will to research about Can Tho City demand in water desalination treatment through this working session so that the Embassy of Spain in Vietnam will suggest suitable ODA projects for the city.
Ms. Cao Thi Minh Thao, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, hosts the meeting and briefs the information about water supply situation of the city. She simultaneously affirms that Can Tho saline intrusion is relatively less serious compared to other provinces in the Mekong Delta.
Representative of Acciona Agua, Mr. Luis Sanchez Lillo, introduces the company water treatment projects in Asia, Africa, South America, Europe and Australia. Acciona Agua has the history of over 75 years, with over 38,500 employees worldwide. Its revenue is about 7,191 million Euros. Its investment sectors include renewable energy, infrastructure (bridge, tunnel, etc), services, industry, and so on. In water treatment in particular, the company has built 300 wastewater treatment plant projects, over 100 drinking water treatment plants, and over 80 desalination plant projects. In Vietnam, the company has participated in conducting Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe wastewater treatment plant in Ho Chi Minh City.
In the discussion, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development leader raises questions related to the removal approach for heavy metal and chemicals in water at the wastewater treatment plant, as well as suggests that the delagation conduct a site survey on Can Tho City actual demand for better cooperation.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment leader also informs that they will prepare a report for the City People's Committee about the working session today and requests the Embassy of Spain in Vietnam to keep in touch with the city in case they have any questions so that the Department can respond in time.
Also in this visit, the Embassy of Spain delegation also pays a coutersy call to Ben Tre and Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee.
