Signing cooperation MoU with AstraZeneca Vietnam Co. Ltd.

On November 14, 2023, Can Tho City People's Committee signed the Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation with AstraZeneca Vietnam Co. Ltd. 

 

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of the City People's Committee said that the signing of MoU was an important milestone in establishing trust and cooperation between the two sides. Furthermore, in order to have a universal healthcare coverage for the sustainable development goals that the Government has committed, Vietnam's health system as well as Can Tho City's health sector needed to increase investment resources, improve capacity and operational efficiency, ensuring the quality of medical services, and meeting the needs of people's healthcare in the City. 

 

After the time of preparation, discussion as well as identification of the need for development cooperation in the upcoming period, Can Tho City People's Committee and AstraZeneca Vietnam had come up with the cooperation agreement mainly in a number of key areas such as strengthening disease prevention and control, biomedical research and especially the joint development of a sustainable health system, focusing on solutions to reduce CO2 emissions from medical activities, improving professional capacity and updating treatment knowledge for doctors and medical staff, increasing access to high-quality medicines and vaccines for people in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region.

In addition, the city leader highlighted some specific programs to be implemented, including: Healthy Lung programme in Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta region from 2024-2026, Cardiovascular - Renal - Metabolic ( CAREME) program, the collaboration program with Can Tho Oncology Hospital, and the digestive healthcare program.

 

From the leadership of Can Tho Department of Health, Director Hoang Quoc Cuong shared his input ideas on early screening programs for lung cancer. He also suggested the setting up of a health innovation center of AstraZeneca in Can Tho City for medical research and capacity building for medical staff in Can Tho and other provinces in the Mekong Delta. 

 

For his part, Mr. Nitin Kapoor, Chairman cum General Director of AstraZeneca Vietnam, said that he very much looked forward to collaborating with the health sector in Can Tho to implement medical programs mentioned earlier by Chairman Tran Viet Truong. As for the innovation center of AstraZeneca, he suggested Can Tho City and other cities/provinces in Vietnam visit their model innovation center in China, which was one of the best innovation centers of AstraZeneca in the world. Mr. Kapoor also shared his agreement in boosting the development and implementation of activities related to early screening for cancer as well as capacity-building for medical staff. 

 

The City People's Committee assigned the Department of Health to be the focal point in coordinating with functional agencies, branches and district People's Committees to proactively implement cooperation contents.
