Mr. Saleh Mohamed Ahmed Al Suqri, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Vietnam, has had a meeting with Can Tho City leader on the occasion of his visit to the Mekong Delta area of Vietnam. The Ambassador is accompanied by senior members of Vietnam – Oman Investment (VOI), a joint venture founded in 2009 between State General Reserve Fund of Oman and the State Capital Investment Corporation of Vietnam. Receiving the Ambassador and his delegation is Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Duong Tan Hien and relevant departments and agencies.

As this is the first visit of the Omani Ambassador to Can Tho, Vice Chairman Duong Tan Hien gives him a briefing about the City and its list of calling for investment in transportation, logistics, high-tech agriculture, etc.

In response, Ambassador Al Suqri mentions the long-lasting relations between Vietnam and Oman, starting in 1992. The two countries have signed 7 agreements and 2 memorandums in different sectors, including trade, agriculture, politics, economy, etc. In particular, the Ambassador emphasizes the huge demand in exporting basmati rice to Oman and the Middle East countries, and suggests that Can Tho City work with local R&D institutions to raise basmati rice for exporting.

Vice Chairman Duong Tan Hien agrees with the Ambassador's suggestion and adds that Can Tho City has collaborated with Japanese partners to raise and export Japanese sushi rice. The Vice Chairman also highlights other projects fitting with Omani and VOI potentials, such as port logistics, transportation infrastructure, and high-tech agriculture.

Omani Ambassador and VOI agree that on the next visit to Can Tho City, they will bring a delegation of Omani enterprises to network and learn more about investment opportunities in Can Tho. VOI kindly requests their contact with relevant departments for further information in investment in the City, and Vice Chairman Hien agrees to assign Department of Planning and Investment, as well as Investment Promotion Agency as key contact points.
