New Year’s reception for expats in Can Tho City

The reception was held in the evening of December 1, 2023 to recognize the contribution of foreigners to the city's socio-economic development. The event was also an opportunity for expats to network and be introduced with the beauty of Vietnamese customs, traditions, culture, history, and people.

 

In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien - Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee said that the reception was an annual activity of the city to show gratitude for foreign experts, scientists, businessmen, lecturers, students, and workers who had chosen Can Tho as their destination. The city leader also acknowledged positive contributions of international organizations, businesses and friends working in Can Tho in its socio-economic development in 2023. In particular, the growth rate of total products in the area reached 6.55% compared to 2022. The total investment capital in the area increased by 13.02% compared to 2022. The total number of visitors to the city reached 5.988 million, exceeding the plan by 15% and increasing by 17% compared to 2022. Additionally, Can Tho City had been actively maximizing the advantages of specific policy mechanisms for its development, as approved by the National Assembly through Resolution No. 45/2022/QH dated January 11th , 2022. These measures aimed to utilize the potential and strengths, ensuring robust development for Can Tho City in the coming years.

 

In addition, the city leadership committed to create the best conditions for organizations, businesses and international friends to study, cooperate, invest and do business in Can Tho. In 2023, the city welcomed 413 delegations with nearly 2,300 international visitors. Through these foreign affairs activities, Can Tho City had effectively promoted its image and position on the international stage, transforming it into a branded and appealing destination for an increasing number of international friends who chose to connect and establish bonds here.

 

The New Year's reception this year attracted roughly 150 foreigners with various nationalities, including: Chinese, Indian, French, Australian, Dutch, Japanese, American, Korean, Kenyan, German, Filipino, Thai, etc.
