On the afternoon of May 23, 2023, the Department of Planning and Investment of Can Tho City held a meeting with the Japan - Vietnam Friendship Association to discuss opportunities of investment connection with Japanese partners and investors.

At the meeting, Mr. Tran Phu Loc Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment, expressed his delight to welcome the delegation, and shared brief information about the city's potential and strengths. Currently, Can Tho City has about 86 foreign direct investment projects, of which there are 06 projects with direct investment capital from Japan with a total of about 1.3 billion USD (ranked first in terms of investment capital in the city).

According to the Deputy Director, the potential and strengths of the city are suitable to the needs of Japanese partners and investors; therefore, Can Tho City and Japan have numerous opportunities to promote investment cooperation.

Can Tho City hope that the Japan - Vietnam Friendship Association will play the role of a bridge for Japanese investors to participate in the significant projects of the city in the future.

Within the framework of the working session, representative leaders of the city's departments, agencies and the Japan - Vietnam Friendship Association discussed many issues related to investment opportunities and development orientation of major projects of the city, such as the Center for Connecting, Producing, Processing and Consuming Agricultural Products of the Mekong Delta in Can Tho City; the Grade II Logistics Center; project of dredging combined with product recovery of Dinh An - Can Tho, etc.

According to Mr. Yasunaga Kojiro, Representative Leader of the Japan - Vietnam Friendship Association, in recent years, the relationship between Vietnam and Japan has continuously developed in multiple fields, and Japanese businesses highly appreciate Vietnam's investment and business environment.

The Japan - Vietnam Friendship Association is an organization with the participation of well-known Japanese companies such as Mitsubishi Corporation, Daiwa House Industry Co.,Ltd, Mitsui Corporation, and Numura Real Estate Development Co.,Ltd, etc.; many of these companies have been present and are actively working in the Vietnamese market.

Mr. Yasunaga Kojiro said that the Japan - Vietnam Friendship Association would strengthen connections and introduce Japanese businesses to learn and expand investment cooperation with Can Tho City in the coming time./.
