Investment promotion business trip in the United States of America

Mr. Pham Van Hieu received a present from Ms. Erin Edwards, Mayor Pro Tem of Riverside City

          From 23 to 27 July 2023 Can Tho City organized an investment promotion business trip in the United States of America. Mr. Pham Van Hieu, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Council led the delegation.

          The purpose of the business trip is to work with investors to introduce and update information on investment opportunities, policies and orientations to attract foreign investment in Can Tho City. The delegation also worked with leaders of Riverside City to enhance the cooperation between two cities after the signing of Memorandum of Understanding in 2015.

          At the dinner hosted by Riverside City, Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson thanked Mr. Pham Van Hieu for taking the time to visit and work with Riverside City. Mayor Lock Dawson assumed office at the end of 2020 and pledged to continue the good partnership between the two cities from her predecessors. At the official meeting between the two cities, Riverside provided presentations on economic development of both Riverside County and Riverside City, focusing on the advantages of investing in this area as well as a number of projects on high-tech agriculture, energy, environment and climate change. Participants at the meeting discussed more about cooperation opportunities between the two sides in the fields of agriculture, trade and education.

          Head of the delegation, Mr. Pham Van Hieu, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Council, thanked the leadership of Riverside City for welcoming the delegation warmly and cordially. The head of the delegation recalled the close cooperation relationship between the two cities from 2015, and briefly introduced Can Tho City and its development orientations, planning and calling for investment. The head of the delegation hoped that the two sides would continue to have cooperative programs, projects and activities in areas of mutual interest and bring practical benefits to the local communities.

          During the trip, Can Tho City also collaborated with Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) Joint Venture Company to organize two investment promotion workshops in Los Angeles (California) and Denver (Colorado). The two workshops were held both in-person and virtual formats with nearly 150 attendees. Distinguished guests included Ms. Erin Bromaghim,  Deputy Mayor of International Affairs of Los Angeles, Mr. Kenneth Wengrod, Vice President, Global Trade and Foreign Investment of Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Craig Meyer, President and Global President, JLL Company, Ms. Karen Gerwitz, President and CEO, World Trade Center Denver, Mr. Jonathan Moreno, Vice President of International Sales and Operations, Diversatek, and Mr. Nguyen Chi Toan, Marketing Director, VSIP Joint Venture Company.

          The speakers gave presentations on the investment and trade cooperation between the U.S. and Vietnam, economic situation and industrial zones and strategic locations for investment in Vietnam, an overview of Can Tho City and its advantages in the field of agriculture and export of agricultural and aquatic products, human resources, transportation and infrastructure. In addition, JLL and Diversatek also shared their positive experiences in investing in Vietnam. The participants at the two workshops asked questions about educational institutions and the field of e-commerce transactions in Can Tho City, the cost of investors' land rental, and corporate income tax when investing in the city, among other issues.

The head of the delegation was impressed with the presentations of the speakers who provided accurate and positive information about Vietnam and Can Tho City. The city government always considers the success of businesses to be the success of the city, so the leadership would provide maximum support to investors when investing in Can Tho. Mr. Pham hoped that in the coming time, many US businesses and partners would come to invest in Can Tho City, especially the VSIP project in Vinh Thanh District.
