As informed by the Organization Board for Ceremonies and Festivals of Can Tho City, the city will hold several major cultural events during the Hung Kings' anniversary this year, starting from 06 April to 11 April. The events include the inauguration of Hung Kings Temple in Can Tho, the 3rd National Festival of Đờn ca tài tử music and song, and the 9th Southern Traditional Cakes Festival.
The highlighted event is the inauguration of Hung Kings' Temple, which will be at 20 hours 00 on April 6th (March the 6th in the lunar calendar) and broadcasted live on Can Tho Television. Hung Kings Temple in Can Tho City is located on Vo Van Kiet Street, about 2 kilometers from Can Tho International Airport. This is a level-two cultural work with an area of approximately 4 hectares and total investment of nearly 130 billion Vietnamese dong. The work aims to serve the practice of worshipping Hung Kings, as wished by local citizens in Mekong Delta area. After the inauguration, Hung Kings' Temple will be officially opened for public visit on the 7th of April.
Besides the Temple inauguration, there will be activities for the 3rd National Festival of Đờn ca tài tử music and song, and the 9th Southern Traditional Cakes Festival, which are from April 06 to 11 at Central Square of Binh Thuy District. 21 cities and provinces will participate in the Festival of Đờn ca tài tử music and song and there will be 200 booths at the Traditional Cakes Festival. Specific activities include đờn ca tài tử contest, đờn ca tài tử space, exhibition of Vietnamese traditional musical instruments, display of traditional cakes making, display of OCOP (One Commune One Product) goods, etc. The opening ceremony for these two events will be at 19 hours 30 minutes on April 07 and broadcasted live on Can Tho Television.
The events are to promote the unique art of đờn ca tài tử music and song, recognized by UNESCO as the intangible cultural heritage. From that, it helps to raise the awareness of the society in maintaining, preserving, and promoting the value of the art of đờn ca tài tử music and song in southern Vietnam. Together with the art space, the cuisine space boosts the traditional values of local cuisine, especially the traditional cakes of people in southern provinces in general and people in Can Tho City in particular.
"Through the organization of the above-mentioned events, city leaders look forward to contributing to the recovery of local tourism in a safe and flexible way and effectively control of COVID-19, creating trust for a safe and attractive domestic tourism", said representative of the Organization Board for Ceremonies and Festivals of Can Tho City.
