Can Tho city with Opportunities to Boost Cooperation with Riverside Partners, the USA

From 13th – 16th November, 2016, a US delegation from Riverside city led by its Mayor – H.E.  William "Rusty" Bailey paid a working visit to Can Tho city. The delegates also included representatives from the Mayor Office, Riverside universities and colleges, namely University of California Riverside, California Baptist Universityy, La Sierra University and Riverside Community College.

The trip was conducted after the visit by Can Tho's Former Chairman of the People's Committee - Le Hung Dung to Riverside in January, 2015 to sign an MOU to promote a long-term relationship with the city in various fields such as public policy, urban policy, government; economy, trade and investment; education and HR training; culture and society; community healthcare and agriculture. Particularly, for this trip, both sides put a strong focus on HR education and training, and climate change issues.

Especially, towards the end of the working session on 14th November, 2016,  leaders of the two cities witnessed two signing ceremonies between Can Tho University of Technology and California Baptist University on enhancing cooperation opportunities, exchanging teaching methodologies and students, lecturers exchange; and Can Tho University, Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute and University of California Riverside on a project to conduct researches and establish a laboratory on salinity intrusion to create favorable conditions for capacity building provided to Can Tho staff to cope with climate change and salinity intrusion for Can Tho city and other places in the Mekong Delta.

The signing ceremonies were expected to further tighten a good relationship between two cities for years to come as emphasized by H.E. Mayor Bailey in his speech: "We are better when we stand together, learn from each other, share with each other, create bridges and recognize potentials of both sides".
