Launching Ceromony of CADIM

On the afternoon of September, 22nd 2014, the launching ceremony for the project, entitled "Capacity Developing for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risks Management" (CADIM) was organized at the People's Committee of Binh Thuy District premises by the city's Union of Friendship Organisations in cooperation with the People's Committee of Binh Thuy district .

Attendees of the ceremony included Chairman of the People's Committee of - Mr. Le Tam Niem, Deputy Director of the Municipal Public Security - Colonel Bui The Trong, representatives of Departments:Planning and Investment, External Relations, Agricultural and Rural Development; the People's Committee of An Thoi Dong and Long Tuyen wards...and those from the donor -  ADRA inVietnam and in Australia (The Adventist Development and Relief agency International).

 CADIM project was approved by the city People's Committee at the Decision No. 2404 / QD-UBND dated on August 29th 2014 with the total budget of $ 78,542 (1,665,099,200 VND), of which $72,028 is funded by ADRA–in Australia through ADRA in Vietnam and the remaining amount is from  Can Tho city's contribuitions. The project implementation period is 02 years (July, 2014 to June, 2016) with the city's Union of Friendship Organisations acting as the project owner. The project will be implemented in Thoi An Dong and Long Tuyen wards, Binh Thuy district. Its targetied objectives are to build capacity for climate change adaptation and disaster risks management for local leaders, governments, communities; to improve knowledge and awareness of response and risks management for communities; to design and implement response and risks management plans; to establish a network on community-based climate change adaptation and disaster risks management, to share achieved lessons and information with government and communities.


The representative of the aid recipient, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Thuy Distrist – Mr. Le Tam Niem expressed his gratitude towards the donor's concern and share with difficulties of citizens in the district - with a particular focus on supports and awareness and capacity raising to respond for the poor, who cannot afford to adapt to and cope with climate change.

Representatives from the donor Mr. Filip Graovac - Country Director of ADRA in Vietnam and Mr. David Cram - Program Manager of ADRA in Australia  said that they were excited in cooperating with Can Tho city as well as contributing to, providing supports in improving awareness on and capacity for climate change adaptation and disaster risks management for relevant stakeholders to protect themselves as well as protect communities in the world'sunpredictable climate change context in Vietnam in general and and in Can Tho city.
