At his reception for Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Shinsuke Sugiyama in Ha Noi on Friday, Deputy PM, FM Minh also spoke highly of the latest developments in the bilateral ties.
Viet Nam and Japan elevated their ties to a new level of Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia during State President Truong Tan Sang's visit to Japan last March.
Mr. Shinsuke Sugiyama affirmed that Japan always attaches importance to the relations with Viet Nam, pledging to continue support for Viet Nam's development through ODA provision and close coordination in realizing joint economic programs and projects.
Earlier on the same day, Deputy FM Ho Xuan Son and his Japanese counterpart Shinsuke Sugiyama co-chaired the 5th Viet Nam-Japan strategic dialogue.
Both sides frankly exchanged views on the strategic partnership; diplomacy, security and defense policies of respective countries as well as regional and international issues of common concern.
The two Deputy FMs agreed that the two countries need to maintain the regular exchange of high-level visits and contacts, promote the role and efficiency of the existing dialogue mechanisms, and further enhance their cooperation at regional and international forums.
Both sides also stressed on the importance of ensuring peace, stability and development in the region and all sea-related issues must be settled by peaceful measures on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The next strategic dialogue will be held in Japan in 2015./.
