Speaking at the meetings with the Secretary and Chairman, Consul General Mary Tarnowka emphasized roles of the city in the Mekong Delta region and expressed U.S. commitment to respecting its partner's independence and the comprehensive partnership between the two countries, which has been more fortified via the most recent two visits by President Donald Trump in 2017 and 2019 during her term.

She informed the leaders her completion of the term in Ho Chi Minh City in early July and asked for their welcome and supports granted to her successor who is going to take the post in mid August 2019.

Consul General Mary Tarnowka shared that more U.S. enterprises have shown interests in cooperation with Vietnam and Can Tho City in new areas like smart city, infrastructure construction for smart city, clean energy (wind, solar).

In turn, the city leaders congratulated Mary Tarnowka on her successful termination of the term in Ho Chi Minh City and then continued sharing the status on the bilateral relation between Vietnam - U.S. in general and Can Tho City – U.S. in particular in various fields such as trade, education and training, people-to-people relations, climate change and environment.

The two leaders valued the diplomat's contributions in creating linkages for U.S. enterprises to be connected with their counterparts for cooperation opportunities and efforts in fostering the relationship of Can Tho City – U.S. during her term. They also thanked the U.S. government for concerns and supports provided to the Mekong Delta region as well as Can Tho City to cope with climate change.

They stressed that although U.S. enterprises have recently interested in exploring cooperation and investment opportunities in Can Tho City, the number of U.S. FDI in the city is still limited, just 03 projects with the total registered capital of 8.89 million USD. Therefore, Secretary Tran Quoc Trung and Chairman Le Quang Manh looked forward to receiving more supports from the Consul General in the coming time under her new position.

Both committed to create favorable conditions and enthusiastically cooperate with the new Consul General to further tighten the bilateral relationship and expand it to new areas.
