PM receives Customs Union chief negotiator

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged relevant sides to quickly complete remaining issues and procedures to sign the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan early next year.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said signing and implementing the agreement will be an important step to lift the traditional friendship ties between Vietnam and Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan into a new height.

He believed that together with fine political, economic, trade and investment relations, the agreement will lay a firm foundation for Vietnam and the Customs Union to strengthen cooperation in different fields, such as education and training, science and technology and culture.

PM Dung stressed Vietnam's consistent policy of fostering cooperation with Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan for mutual development and thanked the three countries' assistance for Vietnam in the past struggles for national independence and in the current national construction and development process.

For his part, Minister Slepnhev underscored that the conclusion of the FTA is attributed to negotiators' efforts and great support from the two governments.

He hoped that the FTA will be an effective tool for cooperation between the Vietnam and the Customs Union. With the FTA, Vietnam will become a bridge linking Asia-Pacific and European economic regions.

He believed that signing the FTA will help push two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Russia to US$10 billion by 2020 and be an effective tool for realizing signed agreements.
