The Government chief reassured the resolve at his reception on Monday for Alok Kumar Sharma, British Cabinet Minister and President for the COP 26.

Right after the conference, the Government established a National Steering Committee led by PM Pham to implement Viet Nam's commitments at the COP26.

Viet Nam is stepping up efforts to further improve legal framework, build up concrete plans and roadmaps, overhaul related strategies and plans, mobilize resources for climate-resilient infrastructure in order to carry out these commitments, Pham stressed.

The Southeast Asian country is also renewing its national power development plan with a focus on accelerating the development of renewable and clean energy in an appropriate and sustainable manner, Pham said.

He suggested Sharma, in his capacity as the COP26 President, continue playing a role in fostering cooperation between Viet Nam and the UK and development partners to help Viet Nam realize those commitments.

Pham called for support for Viet Nam to connect with the financial institutions and credit organizations capable of providing financial aid and credit for the country similar to the Just Energy Transition Partnership that the UK, France, Germany, the U.S. and the European Union signed with South Africa.

PM Pham also said Viet Nam is in need of assistance to set up a domestic carbon market linked with the international one, a renewable energy center to promote human resource training, technology transfer, and sharing of legal and governance experience.

Sharma, for his part, highly valued Viet Nam's strong commitments to the success of the COP26 as well as its swift and comprehensive actions to make sure that the commitments are implemented in reality.

He vowed to cooperate and share experience with Viet Nam to help the country carry out the commitments, adding that energy transition process is key to realize Viet Nam's commitments as 70 percent of the country's gas emissions comes from the energy sector.
