The 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and India
Upon the assignment by Can Tho City People's Committee, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Director of the City Department of External Relations has attended the ceremony of 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and India held in Ho Chi Minh City.
The anniversary is co-organized by the Consulate General in Ho Chi minh City and Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and is attended by leaders of some cities/provinces in the South, leaders of Departments of External Relations, together with several consul generals in Ho Chi Minh City.
Sharing his remarks at the anniversary, Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, India Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City says that Vietnam has been a reliable partner of India, and that India highly appreciates the support of Vietnamese government and people in the fight against COVID-19 in India last April to June.
In addition, the multi-faceted relations between Vietnam and India has been developed rapidly. Bilateral trade from 200 million USD in 2000 reached 12.04 billion USD in 2019. Despite COVID-19 and its impact to the supply chain disruption and tourism, in 2020-2021, trade turnover between the two countries was 10.04 billion USD. The two governments are aiming for the target of 14 billion USD bilateral trade.
The Consul General emphasizes some sectors that Indian enterprises and investors are interested in investing in Vietnam, such as infrastructure, agriculture, high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, manufacturing, textile, automobile, education, healthcare, pharmaceutical, tourism and hospitality. The Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City is willing to support cities/provinces, chambers of commerce, and business associations of Vietnam in connecting with Indian partners.
Besides, India has been enthusiastically supporting Vietnam in training human resources, through the scholarships for Vietnamese to participate in Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). The Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City is also working on English training programmes for 30 teachers in Tay Ninh and 45 officials in Kien Giang Province.
It is expected that in Quarter 2/2022 there will be activities held in Can Tho City to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and India, co-organized by the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho City People's Committee.
