Indian CG to visit Can Tho on the celebration of 50th anniversary of Vietnam and India

On the afternoon of September 29, 2022, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien had a meeting with Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee welcomed the visit of the Consul General and briefed information on the city's socio-economic development. Over the past time, the government and people of Can Tho city have always identified India as one of the important partners in the process of international integration. Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee hoped that the Consul General would continue to support the promotion of the city's image to Indian investors and promote cooperation in many fields, especially in the fields of economy, tourism, agriculture, etc., contributing to building the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India.

Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee invited the Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City to attend the 2022 International Agricultural Fair in Can Tho City in November, which is an opportunity for cooperation and promotion between Can Tho City and Indian partners.

Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi thanked the leaders of Can Tho city for the welcome and briefly introduced some areas of India's strengths in economy, tourism, healthcare, and human resource training. The Consul General pledged to continue to support Can Tho City in trade promotion activities, investment cooperation through the connection of partners and localities of India in the coming time, especially in the fields of India's strengths in economy, tourism, health, human resource training, etc.

In the evening of the same day, at Can Tho University, the Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam - India Friendship Association of Can Tho city held a celebration for the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and India (January 7, 1972 - January 7, 2022).

At the meeting, the delegates watched a documentary film celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and India and enjoyed many special performances and yoga performances. On this occasion, the Union of Friendship Organizations of Can Tho City presented certificates of merit to one group and two individuals who made great contributions to the organization of International Yoga Day in the city.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee reviewed the good relationship between Vietnam and India during the past 50 years. Since Vietnam reunified the country, the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and India have continuously developed strongly. In particular, since the two countries upgraded their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016, Vietnam has always affirmed its consistent policy of attaching importance to, strengthening and promoting relations with India. Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien thanked the Government of India for supporting Can Tho City in providing scholarships for students and officials of the city through Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation program, holding the International Yoga Day, and many cultural exchange activities, people-to-people diplomacy. He also expressed confidence in the bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and India in general, and the cooperation between Can Tho and India to develop more and more in the near future.

Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, shared his excitement at the good traditional cooperative relationship between the two countries, which has been increasingly consolidated and developed in many fields. At the same time, the Consul General committed to maintain this friendship and good partnership with all provinces and cities of Vietnam; together to realize development goals for a prosperous Vietnam and India.
