On 04 January 2022, Can Tho City Department of External Relations organized the handover ceremony for medical supplies of COVID-19 prevention sponsored by Jeollanamdo, Republic of Korea and Okayama City, Japan.

The ceremony was organized onsite at the Department of External Relations and virtually at the representative office of Jeollanamdo in Ho Chi Minh City. Distinguished participants include Mr. Duong Tan Hien, Permanent Deputy Chairman of the City People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Chairman of Can Tho City Vietnam Fatherland Front, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Director of External Relations Department, and Mr. Jeong Jong Gyun, Head of Representative Office of Jeollanamdo in Ho Chi Minh City.

Making a remarks at the ceremony, Mr. Duong Tan Hien said that since the fourth outbreak of COVID-19 in Vietnam, Can Tho City had received several donations from foreign localities and international non-governmental organizations. In particular, Can Tho City Department of External Relations collaborated with 04 foreign localities to support the City with rapid test kits, face shields, medical masks, oximeters, N-95 masks, etc. with total value of approximately 1.7 billion VND.

This time, 10,000 face shields from Jeollanamdo (RoK) and 50,000 masks from Okayama (Japan) would be handed over to Department of Health and Can Tho City Vietnam Fatherland Front for their fight against COVID-19.

On behalf of the City People's Committee, Mr. Duong Tan Hien extended his gratitude to leaders of Jeollanamdo and Okayama for their support to Can Tho. The Permanent Deputy Chairman emphasized that with the determination and solidarity of the political system and its people, Can Tho had accomplished considerable outcomes in the fight against the pandemic. However, the COVID-19 situation in Can Tho still developed unpredictably, and frontline workers and hospitals were in great need of medical supplies and equipment.

The support from foreign localities was not only the physical help but also tremendous spiritual support for Can Tho. Such activity shows the friendship and solidarity of other countries to Vietnam in general and to Can Tho City in particular.

Previously, Can Tho had received the donation from Riverside (the United States of America), including N-95 masks, coveralls, face shields, oximeters, hand sanitizers with total value of more than 1 billion VND, and donation from Kaposvar (Hungary) of 1,000 rapid test kits valued of 180 million VND.
