French Embassy and Can Tho City: Coordinating for photo exhibition in Can Tho

On the afternoon of August 4, 2022, Deputy Director of the Department of External Relations, Ms. Ho Thi Thanh Bach had a working session with Mr. Thierry Vergon, Cultural Attaché, French Embassy cum Director of the French Institute in Hanoi. There were also representatives of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the City Museum.

The meeting was about the coordination of organizing a photo exhibition by photographer Lam Duc Hien with the theme "Mekong - A story of two banks", scheduled to be held in May 2023 in Can Tho City. It is expected that there would be participation of the French Embassy, ​​Consulate General and photographer Lam Duc Hien himself at the opening ceremony of the exhibition. Lam Duc Hien is a French-Vietnamese photographer who has won many photography awards, including prestigious awards such as the Leica Award, the Great European Award of Vevy City, World Press Photo, etc. He has made a journey along 4,200 kilometers of the Mekong River, from the bustling, life-filled tropical downstream in Vietnam to the upstream in Tibet where snow is covered year-round. The photographer has captured daily life moments along the great river. It is planned about 30 photos from that journey will be displayed at the photo exhibition.

The representatives of Can Tho City highly appreciated the idea of ​​organizing a photo exhibition in Can Tho and discussed in details with the Cultural Attaché of the French Embassy in Vietnam about the organization's scale and form, as well as exhibition techniques. In addition, the Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs also informed the Cultural Attaché a number of other activities within the framework of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France in 2023 proposed by Can Tho City to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including contests and festivals related to France and the cooperation relationship between Can Tho and French partners.

After the meeting, representatives of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the City Museum guided the Cultural Attaché of the French Embassy to visit the City Museum, where the photo exhibition is expected to be held. The two sides agreed to continue to maintain exchanges and detailed discussion for the event organization.
