City leader meets with high-ranking delegation of Egyptian Administrative Control Authority (ACA)

In the morning of 21 December 2016, Vice Chairman of City People's Committee Truong Quang Hoai Nam had a meeting with the high-ranking delegation of Egyptian Administrative Control Authority (ACA), led by Mr. Khaled Safwat – Permanent Vice President. Participating in the meeting, there were representatives from City Inspectorate, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Planning and Investment, Investment Promotion Agency, and Processing and Industrial Zones Authority. During this visit to Can Tho City, the delegation would like to learn about the investment situation, the management of processing and industrial zones, complaints of the investors, and visiting one typical enterprise of the City.

As introduced by Vice Chairman Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Can Tho City mainly attracts investment in agro-processing, engineering, distribution, logistics, and tourism services. Currently, the domestic investment capital in Can Tho reached 4.58 billion USD, 10 times higher than that of foreign investment. Besides these investment areas, Can Tho City is also calling for investment in port-logistics services and hi-tech agriculture.

There are 8 industrial zones, among which Tra Noc and Thot industrial zones being two major ones, with more than 200 projects, 326 ha leased land, 1.6 billion USD investment capital, and 32,000 workers.

Vice Chairman Truong Quang Hoai Nam also introduced about the typical enterprises of Can Tho City with products for high-end domestic and international services, such as: Le Fruit with juices for 5-star hotels and restaurants, Nike sneakers, Marlboro tobacco, and Japanese rice for sushi restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Khaled Safwat – Permanent Vice President of ACA – was very impressed with the trade activities of the City. He and the member delegates showed their impression on a green and beautiful Can Tho. The delegation was particularly concerned about the export of agro-products and fruit of local enterprises. The delegation informed that Egypt was also one of the imported markets of Vietnamese agro-products. Vice Chairman Truong Quang Hoai Nam said that in 2015, export turnover of local enterprises was 400 million USD, mainly in rice, aquaculture, and textile.

After the meeting with the People's Committee, the delegation visited Tra Noc industrial zone, and left for An Giang Province to work with local inspectorate. Also in this visit to Vietnam, the delegation had a meeting with Government Inspectorate in the previous day.
